Spring

It’s Spring!  It’s beautiful outside, the weather is perfect, if not slightly too warm, the flowers are beginning to bloom.  One almost forgets that we are in a period of isolation when it is a beautiful day.  I invite you today to go outside, take a moment to breathe in the fresh air and take in the beauty around you, maybe go for a walk, or simply sit and reflect.

Read this scripture:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul.  O Lord my God, you are very great.  You are clothed with honor and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment.  You stretch out the heavens like a tent, you set the beams of your chambers on the waters, you make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind, you make the winds your messengers, fire and flame your ministers. You make springs gush fort in the valleys; they flow between the hills, giving drink to every wild animal; By the streams the birds of the air have their habitation; they sing among the branches.  I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.  May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord.” – Psalm 104: 1-2, 10-12, 33-34

While you’re in God’s creation pay attention:

  • What noises are you hearing, what have you not noticed before?
  • Where do you see beauty? what have you not noticed before?
  • Do you see signs of new life?
  • Take another deep breath, breath out.  Can you sense the presence of God?
For the Beauty of the Earth

For the beauty of the earth
For the beauty of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Over and around us lies
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise

For the beauty of the hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of light
Sun and moon and stars of light
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise

For the joy of human love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mild
For all gentle thoughts and mild
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise

Close in this prayer/blessing from the Gaelic tradition:

O Christ, there is not plant in the ground but it is full of your virtue..
There is no form in the strand but it is full of your blessing.
There is no life in the sea, there is no creature in the ocean,
There is nothing in the heavens but proclaims your goodness.
There is no bird on the wings, there is no star in the sky,
There is nothing beneath the sun but proclaims your goodness. Amen.
